Shaquem Griffin: A Story of Courage and Determination
Share
Shaquem Griffin is more than just a football player — he is a symbol of strength and determination. He was born with a condition called amniotic band syndrome, and when he was 4 years old, his left hand had to be amputated. Even with this challenge, he never gave up on his dream.
From a young age, he worked hard to show that he could play like any other athlete. Many people didn’t believe he could succeed in football because of his missing hand. But Shaquem never stopped trying. At the University of Central Florida (UCF), he became one of the best players on the team.
In 2018, he surprised everyone at the NFL Combine by lifting weights 20 times using a special prosthetic, and running the 40-yard dash in just 4.38 seconds — one of the fastest times ever for a linebacker.
Later that year, he was selected by the Seattle Seahawks as the 141st pick in the NFL Draft, out of over 70,000 college football players in the U.S. Only 256 players are chosen each year — less than 0.3%. This made his achievement even more special. He also got to play with his twin brother, Shaquill Griffin, on the same team.
Shaquem’s story teaches us that we should never give up, even when things are hard. He proved that anything is possible with passion, hard work, and belief in yourself.
